Brag Doc
A private running list of your wins, growth moments, and feedback received. Written for your future self at promotion or job-search time.
A brag doc is a personal file you maintain with three sections: shipped, learned, feedback. You add to it weekly or after every notable event. It exists for one moment, your next promotion conversation or job search, when memory has compressed everything into 'a few projects, I think they went well.'
The doc is private. It does not need to be polished. The discipline is just adding to it. Most engineers and ICs who keep brag docs for 2-3 years find the documentation alone gets them faster promotions, because the artifact does the storytelling for them.
Start your brag doc on day 1 of a new role. The first 90 days produces more entries than the next 9 months combined.
